Location Scout
Required to upgrade to Location Scout and Assistant Location Manager
DURATION: 2 days (4 hours per day)

Description
The Location Scout course covers the basics from getting the call, to acquiring, compiling, and presenting a location file. Other topics include:
- Equipment requirements and basic photography technical concepts
- The cold call and what makes a good location
- Digital Library, Creative BC (BC Film Commission), and industry contacts
- Practical scouting assignment and file review
Assignment
- This course includes a mandatory practical location scouting assignment due before day 2. Participants will be required to photograph a location after the first class and create a photo file of the location. Photo files will be reviewed during the day 2 class. The PNE will be recommended as the location to photograph; however you may select another location upon approval of the instructor.
Supplemental Information
- Expect to spend 2 to 5 hours per week on coursework, including reading and watching videos, photographing a location, and compiling a photo file.
- This course requires participation in small group discussions and activities.
- Participants will need to upload a photo file to Google Drive.
Course Materials
- Materials will be provided online through the DGC BC training website.
Technical Requirements
- A camera or camera phone is required. Participants must know how to use their camera.
- A computer with an internet connection to access the course materials.
- Zoom classes require a computer with a functioning webcam, microphone, and a stable internet connection.
Registration
Invitations are emailed to Members based on a priority system (subject to change):
- Wave 1: Associate Members who have worked as a Location Scout or Assistant Location Manager.
- Wave 2: All remaining Associate Members.
