2nd Assistant Director (2nd AD)

Required to upgrade to 2nd Assistant Director.

DURATION: 2 days (8 hours per day)

FORMATS OFFERED: In-person or Zoom

PREREQUISITES: Must be a Full Member in Good Standing in the 3rd Assistant Director category.

Description

This two-day course is designed for Members who already have, or are seeking to gain, 2nd Assistant Director experience. It introduces participants to the duties of the 2nd Assistant Director from prep to the end of principal photography. This intensive course places a strong emphasis on document creation, time management, scheduling, and the use of Excel to create a callsheet.

Assignment

  • Students are required to complete a Prep Memo and a Callsheet as homework. Successful completion of this assignment is necessary to receive credit for the course.

Required Knowledge

  • Participants must have a working knowledge of basic Microsoft Excel and Word operations.

Supplemental Information

  • Classes are held on a single weekend, Saturday and Sunday.
  • In-class work and daily tests will contribute to the overall grade.

Course Materials

  • Materials will be provided online through the DGC BC training website.

Technical Requirements

  • A laptop with Microsoft Word and Excel installed.
  • An internet connection to access the course materials.
  • Zoom classes require a computer with a stable internet connection, and a functioning webcam, microphone, audio and video.

Registration

  • Registration is by invitation only through Eventbrite, for Members who meet the prerequisites.
  • If space is available, the course will be advertised in the E-bulletin and Members may apply to attend. Approval to attend is granted by the 2nd AD instructor and the AD Caucus Advisory Committee.
