Coles is a member of the Writers Guild of Canada (WGC), the Directors Guild of Canada (DGC), and ACTRA Toronto. As a writer and director, Coles enjoys compelling, character-driven stories in both fiction and unscripted projects and gravitates to realism and nuanced characters. When working with scripted material, she understands the actors’ artistic processes intuitively, having trained and worked professionally as an actor. Coles recently completed production on "The Curtain" (2023), a short drama that she wrote, produced, directed, and starred in. "The Curtain," completed was funded by the Canada Council for the Arts, and Ontario Arts Council with dispensation from the WGC. Screening at the Montreal Independent Film Festival; 77th Festival del Cinema di Salerno; 12th Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival 23'; 42nd New Jersey Film Festival, and the 25th Academy Accredited Qualifying Short Shorts Film Festival & Asian and many more since its festival release where it's garnered 12 international awards. In 2021/2022, Telefilm Canada awarded Coles two script-development grants: for the screenplays "Soiled Dove," and "Love in Vein." "Soiled Dove, a female-driven western is on the The Red List of Coverfly winner of 12 finalist international screenwriting awards. A first draft of "Love In Vein" is in the works also with the support of Telefilm Canada. She is now in polishing and packaging with "Soiled Dove" supported by Ontario Creates. Her multi-award-winning feature documentary "Melody Makers" – and companion interactive digital media (IDM) which she wrote, produced and directed – was released in 2019 with the support of Telefilm Canada. "Melody Makers" was originally licensed by CBC, The Documentary Channel. Prior to moving into film and television Coles was a professional modern dancer and choreographer. She is an alumna of the Women in the Director’s Chair program, and is the founder and executive director of The Female Eye Film Festival (FeFF).
