We are thrilled to announce the official launch of the Sustainable Futures Material Reuse Project, a circular economy program spearheaded by the DGC Ontario Sustainability Committee.
This initiative provides a solution for leftover production materials by putting them into the hands of film students, reducing unnecessary waste and ushering in a brighter and greener future for the next generation of filmmakers.
By fostering collaboration between schools and local productions, we aim to create a transformative, eco-friendly process that allows DGC Ontario Productions with excess materials to connect with enthusiastic film students who can then reuse the materials on their projects.
This program was inspired by the story of DGC Ontario Member and Sustainability Committee Member Stacy Morris, who found a way to help her daughter make her thesis film at Sheridan College by convincing the production she was working on to donate two carloads of materials to her daughter’s student film. Stacy’s initiative perfectly illustrated the benefit of sustainable practices within the industry and how creative thinking can save both dollars and the environment.
Through the collective efforts of DGC Ontario and our partners in post-secondary institutions, we hope to create a ripple effect that builds on sustainable practices for an even brighter, greener future for the entire Ontario production community.
