Training & Professional Development

The following courses are open to both Members and Non-Members. Unless otherwise specified, all courses are available for a cost of $30 (Includes HST). Registration is required for all courses and must be done through the Eventbrite registration page.

If you are interested in joining DGC Ontario, please click here for information on applying for Membership. The specific courses required, as listed in Appendix A, are listed below. If you are applying to the Guild Apprentice Program, do not take these courses yet.

MANDATORY SAFETY CERTIFICATES

These courses are requirements for DGC Membership and must be completed before you submit your application.

Worker Health & Safety Certificate

All Guild Members, regardless of category, are required to have this certificate and you must have proof of completion for your Employer. Please click on the links below to access the online training courses.

If you work as a Department Head you must complete:

If you do not work as a Department Head or Supervisor, you must complete:

Worker Health and Safety

If you work in both capacities, it is recommended you take both courses. The Ministry of Labour will not retain a record of your completion of the course, so you will need to print your certificate of completion. Once you have completed the course, email a PDF of your certificate to DGC Ontario at membership@dgcontario.ca.  Your certificate will be kept on file.

Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate

The complex day-to-day operations of the screen-based industry demand that you have basic training of hazardous materials. The online course is available for $29.95 plus tax here:

Virtual WHMIS.

*The Ontario Health and Safety guidelines recommend taking this at least once a year to be familiar with changes and regulation.

First Aid Training

A one day Emergency First Aid course is required for application to become a DGC Member or Apprentice. Courses are available through St John Ambulance (www.sja.ca), and DGC Members/Applicants are eligible for a 10% discount. To book a course through St John Ambulance, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Go to the St John Ambulance website at www.sja.ca to find the course/location you want to take.
  2. Contact the location where you will be taking the course to register by phone.
  3. Provide the DGC Corporate code:  SITE-033598

DGC Ontario also offers Emergency First Aid courses at various times throughout the year. If available, the course will be listed on the training page. 

 


 

DGC Ontario Educational Bursary

The purpose of the DGC Ontario Member Education Bursary is to enable Members to take advantage of professional development and continuing education opportunities that are not available through the DGC Training Program.
