As many of you know, in September, DGC Members in Newfoundland & Labrador voted to pursue forming an independent District Council – a changed necessary to strengthen our Guild’s position under provincial labour laws. In October, the National Executive Board approved this separation and welcomed Erin French, Chair of the new District Council, to the NEB.

Today, we’re pleased to announce that the NLDGC has signed a Voluntary Recognition Agreement with it’s first Signatory Production. This marks the establishment of the Newfoundland & Labrador District Council as an functioning labour organization in the province.

The Business Agent for the new District Council is Noel Harris, who served previously on the board of the Atlantic Regional Council. The NLDGC will maintain a close working relationship with ARC to minimize duplication of administrative overhead. All members residing in Newfoundland and Labrador will automatically become members of the new council with no changes to their health plan, membership status or other benefits. The Newfoundland & Labrador section on DGC.ca has gone live and changes to DGC letterhead, logos, graphics and infrastructure will roll out over time.
