Kicking-off the 17th Annual DGC Awards

The Directors Guild of Canada is pleased to announce, submissions are now open for the 17th annual DGC Awards.

We have some exciting changes coming this year, ensuring Canada’s most up to date films and television series are considered. Our new eligibility periods for film run right up until October 20th of this year!

  • For Television Series, Movies for Television and Mini-Series, the eligibility window this year will run from January 1st, 2017 to May 30th, 2018 with a submission deadline of April 13th, 2018.
  • For Feature Film, Documentary and Short Films, the submission deadline is August 8th, 2018. Any qualifying film that has received a commercial theatrical or internet release, or screened at a qualifying festival from January 1st, 2017 to October 20th, 2018, is now eligible.
  • For films premiering after the deadline of August 8th, 2018, your release or screening must be scheduled by the submission deadline and a digital copy of the film must still be provided.
  • If you have a film that will be released or screened after the deadline, and DO NOT wish to submit in advance, please be assured your film will remain eligible for next year’s awards.

DGC Members are also now eligible to be nominated for both work on non-union productions for which they received Dispensation and for work on a DGC Signatory Productions performed under any union contract (including DGA, ARRQ, IATSE, etc.). Documentaries and shorts may be nominated as long as a DGC Member served as Director, Executive Producer, Producer or a Department Head.

The Guild is also updating our jury selection process. Regional juries will select a short list of candidates to be considered by national juries in every category, ensuring balanced nominees from across all District Councils. All Full Members in Good Standing may vote on the Final Ballot.

Winners will be announced on October 20th, 2018 at the DGC Awards Gala in Toronto, the same weekend as the Guild’s Inaugural Biennial Convention.
