DIRECTORS GUILD LAUNCHES NATIONAL DIRECTOR MENTOR PROGRAM

Latest initiative is one of three in the DGC’s National Directors Division career pipeline strategy

TORONTO – The National Directors Division (NDD) of the Directors Guild of Canada is thrilled to launch its new National Director Mentor Program. This program is one of three NDD initiatives that aim to build a pathway for DGC Directors upwards through the industry and to help advance careers.

This new program pairs DGC Director members with Directors who are one or two steps further in their career. It aims to support and prepare DGC Director members who seek to advance their directing careers by providing valuable tools and information to strengthen their craft.

“This new program will accelerate directors’ careers and foster new voices,” said NDD Chair Zach Lipovsky. “Initiatives like this are vital for the strength and longevity of the Canadian Film & Television industry as a whole.”

The NDD Executive Committee will select up to 10 participants from the pool of DGC Director applicants. Each participant will be paired with a DGC Director Mentor for a term of nine months – during which time they will have monthly one-on-one meetings as well as a meeting with the entire cohort.

The National Director Mentor Program joins the ongoing NDD Director Observer Initiative, a framework to easily enable producers to discover new talent and invest in the future of their production through an on-set placement of a Director Observer (sometimes called a ‘Shadow’). DGC Directors with upcoming shows and producers are encouraged to reach out to access the DGC’s services to facilitate.

The third initiative in the NDD’s career pipeline strategy is the upcoming Director Market Accelerator – launching in 2025. This initiative will strive to highlight and connect cohorts of DGC Directors at National and International industry markets.
