Toronto – The Directors Guild of Canada issued the following statement today regarding the unprecedented results of the Writers Guild of Canada's strike authoritzation vote.

“Members of the Writers Guild of Canada have voiced their strength, unity and commitment to a fair deal with an overwhelming vote to authorize a strike action in their negotiations with the CMPA. The DGC backs the WGC in this effort unequivocally.

“The WGC is fighting for principles that unite creatives across our industry and for the respect that everyone in our business deserves. Whether it’s fair pay, guardrails for the ethical use of AI, or minimum levels for staffing or crew, these challenges face us all and we are all dedicated to working side-by-side in solidarity to make those goals a reality.

“We call on the CMPA not to force a damaging work stoppage at a time our industry needs to move forward, and come to the table with the WGC to make a fair and equitable deal.”
