Directors Guild welcomes new Minister of Heritage

Toronto - The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) would like to congratulate the Honourable Pablo Rodríguez on his appointment as Minister of Canadian Heritage.

“We look forward to working with the new Minister, advancing the government’s plans to put creators at the centre of our cultural policy,” said Dave Forget, DGC National Executive Director. “The DGC will continue our work with this government to ensure original Canadian stories are told by a diverse and growing range of Canadian voices.”

DGC President Tim Southam added: “The DGC will continue to work on behalf of our members and Canadians to defend and modernize a robust cultural policy that recognizes storytellers and creators as the authors of cultural content.”

Southam also thanked outgoing Minister of Canadian Heritage Mélanie Joly: “I want to personally thank Mme. Joly for her commitment to a creator-centric policy and for taking concrete steps to make that policy a reality. Minister Joly deserves praise for her decisions such as sending last year’s Group Licence Renewals back to the CRTC to be reconsidered and stabilizing funding at the Canada Media Fund.”
