The DGC joins the Canadian film and television industry in mourning the passing of Carole Vivier and celebrating her remarkable career that has made an everlasting impact on not only the industry in Manitoba but across the country and internationally. Cathie Edgar, DGC Manitoba Chair, released the following statement:

DGC Manitoba is saddened to hear of the passing of Carole Vivier on Tuesday March 4th, 2025.

Carole was the true champion of the Manitoba film and television industry over her 40-year career at Manitoba Film and Music. She was extremely well known and respected locally, nationally, and internationally in her role as CEO & Film Commissioner. Her passion and advocacy for arts and culture established our vibrant film and television industry that we have today. Her dedication to the ongoing growth through the establishment of the Manitoba Film and Video Tax Credit in 1997 continues to make our community a global hub within the production industry.

Carole took great pride in the establishment of the film program at Sisler High School, allowing young filmmakers the opportunity of mentorship and early development of skills, giving them the ability to tell their stories and nurturing a love of film making.

In 2019, she was the recipient of the DGC Honourary Life Member Award, which recognized and saluted her support of Manitoba filmmakers and the community at large. In 2014, she was the recipient of the Order of Manitoba and in 2024, she received the Order of Canada.

Carole's impact on our industry is exceptional and her legacy will live on through so many of her initiatives and visions that have come to life in Manitoba.

Her passing is such a sad loss for our film community, and she will be greatly missed.
