MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS: JOINING THE DGC

Thank you for your interest in joining the Directors Guild of Canada. 

For DGC Maritimes, an individuals level of membership will depend on their experience.  There are 2 different types of Membership:

Full Membership - everything above a Production Assistant, Trainee or Fourth Assistant Director.

Associate Membership - all positions that are considered entry level to the specific category.

 

 FULL MEMBERSHIP (EXCLUDING DIRECTOR)

IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR FULL MEMBERSHIP IN THE DGC MARITIMES, AN INDIVIDUAL MUST:

  • Complete 150 days in the job classification you are applying for on a minimum of 3 signatory DGC productions

Full membership in DGC Maritimes represents all job categories above Production Assistants & Trainee positions.

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP

IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR AN ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP IN THE DGC MARITIMES, AN INDIVIDUAL MUST:

  • Have completed 90 days as a Permittee on at least three DGC Signatory Productions*
  • Have completed the mandatory training courses:
    • DGC Fundamentals (offered by DGC Maritimes)
    • Building a Respectful Workplace (offered by DGC Maritimes)
    • Set Etiquette (often offered by IATSE 849)
    • Emergency First Aid (often offered through St. John Ambulance or Red Cross)
    • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate (online course)
    • And if working in the Locations Department, Propane Handling and Exchange (Online Safety Training)

Associate Membership in DGC Maritimes represents Production Assistants and any Trainee positions.

*The Membership & Training (M&T) Committee may consider 10% (or 9 days) of non-union work towards associate membership. This is at the descretion of the M&T Committee.

Submitting Your DGC Membership Application:

 Steps to take:

1. Please review all Membership requirements with the DGC.

2. Please review the Job Category representation to verify that the job category you are applying for is covered by DGC Maritimes. If you are unsure, please click HERE for confirmation.

3. Please review the Membership Requirements listed above to ensure that you meet the minimum requirements, including any and all mandatory courses.

4. Please note the membership joining fee and annual dues stated on your application**:

  • The fee to join as a Full Member is $500 + yearly dues of $750 which you can pay a pro-rated amount of $187.50 for only for the quarter you are joining in (for e.g. $687.50 in total).

                OR

  • The fee to join as an Associate Member (entry level) is $150 plus yearly dues of $450 which you can pay a pro-rated amount of $112.50 for only for the quarter you are joining in (for e.g. $262.50 in total).
