Business Agent-Directors Guild of Canada (Manitoba)
DGC Manitoba is accepting applications for the position of Business Agent for our District Council office in Winnipeg. The Business Agent will work in collaboration with both the local and national DGC staff under the direction of the DGC Manitoba Board of Directors. You are responsible for the management of collective agreement(s) and representing DGC Members. We seek an adaptable, collaborative professional to deliver timely, practical Member support and work with our national team. Key responsibilities include:
Managing Collective Agreements
To advise the Board on labour relations matters, preparing briefs, reports and other documents as may be required. Participate in preparations for negotiation of collective agreements for the interests of DGC Members and Manitoba for productions. Interact with National staff and other business agents on business, industry and relevant developments. Facilitating negotiations on variances, preparing documentation for approval by senior management and relaying outcomes to the Board.
DGC Member Representation
To provide verbal and written opinions to members as required for contract interpretations and statutory requirements including health and safety. Answering DGC Member enquiries, providing opinions and suggestions on handling complaints through established problem-solving processes. Issuing work permit applications in accordance with the collective agreement and Guild policy. Preparing for and representing DGC and/or Members at judicial and quasi-judicial hearings and proceedings as required.
Additional Duties, Projects, and Initiatives
Working effectively by establishing collegial working relationships with producers and other employers.
Monitoring legislative or policy changes relevant to the film and television industry, and communicating potential effects to the Board, and membership. Ensuring all issues impacting the DGC, are referred to the National Executive Director for resolution.
Assisting in other related duties, functions, or tasks such as, office management, supervision, and other administrative responsibilities.
Education, Experience and Knowledge Requirements
Ø Familiarity with the Canada film, tv, and streaming industries is preferred.
Ø A thorough knowledge of labour/employment law, employment standards and contract negotiation is required, plus related education, certification, or relevant experience in labour relations is a definite asset.
Ø A drivers’ license valid for the Province of Manitoba, plus the ability to work at a variety of job sites and times.
