Trainee Assistant Location Manager (TAL)
Completion of either the TAD or TAL course is required for membership to the DGC BC.
IMPORTANT: The TAL course is a prerequisite for the Assistant Location Manager course. If you plan to pursue a career in the Locations Department, it is recommended you complete the TAL course. Please see the Location Management course prerequisites.

Description
In this course, you will learn the role and responsibilities of the Trainee Assistant Location Manager (TAL). You will be introduced to the Locations process which includes reading the script, scouting locations, preparing a location for filming, managing the location during filming, and wrapping the location afterward. Emphasis will be placed on the paperwork completed by the Locations Department at each step of the process, and practical exercises will help enhance your understanding. The course will also cover the role of the Locations Department in a production and its relationship with other departments and the community at large.
Assignments
- This course includes mandatory homework assignments and a final exam.
Course Materials
- Materials will be provided online through the DGC BC training website.
Expectations
You will be required to:
- Participate in small group discussions during class.
- Create posts and reply in an online discussion forum.
- Complete Microsoft Excel and PDF forms.
- Convert files to PDF and combine multiple PDFs into a single file.
Technical Requirements
- A computer with an internet connection to access the course materials and complete assignments.
- Zoom classes require a computer with a functioning webcam, microphone, and a stable internet connection.
Registration
- This course is open to eligible Logbook Holders in Good Standing.
- Two seats per session will be allocated to Associate Members in Good Standing.
- Registration is by invitation only through Eventbrite.
