Trainee Assistant Director (TAD) Course
Completion of either the TAD or TAL course is required for membership to the DGC BC.
IMPORTANT: The TAD course (or 20 days worked as a TAD) is a prerequisite for the 3rd Assistant Director Course. If you plan to pursue a career as an Assistant Director, it is recommended you complete the TAD course. Please see the AD course prerequisites.

Description
In this course, you will learn the role and responsibilities of the Trainee Assistant Director (TAD) throughout the production process. The relationship of the AD department with other film departments and the hierarchical nature of a film crew will be explored. We will look at the paperwork created by the AD department and will examine the major union contracts with an emphasis on the key articles (rules) you will need to know as a TAD. The role and rules of Background Performers will be explained in depth, and you will have the opportunity to practice completing a BG voucher. Walkie inventory and management, resumes and interview skills will also be discussed.
Assignments
- This course includes homework assignments and a final exam.
Course Materials
- Materials will be provided online on the DGC BC training website.
Technical Requirements
- A computer with an internet connection to access the course materials.
- Zoom classes require a computer with a functioning webcam, microphone, and a stable internet connection.
Registration
- This course is open to eligible Logbook Holders in Good Standing.
- Two seats per session will be allocated to Associate Members in Good Standing.
- Registration is by invitation only through Eventbrite.
